Frequently asked questions.
How do you get a towel of drainage? Isn’t that just dirt?
We completely understand why you would think that! We wish it was that simple.
The beloved drainage towel is usually placed under our clients chest as they are face down, and we are typically left with a silhouette of their body that varies in color from golden yellow to brown, to grey, to black.
This drainage we see is comprised of metabolic and cellular waste, toxins, pathogens, and bacteria that was stagnant in your tissues and synovial spaces. This debris is awaiting entrance into your lymphatic vessels to be drained and expelled from the body via our complex lymphatic system, but your body often drains in other ways—like sweating.
Repeat sauna goers will attest to some sort of discolored drainage coming out on the towels as they really sweat, and this is the same stuff that we try to massage out of you during Galore Lymphatic sessions.
With the use of an Ayurvedic oil staple, sesame oil, which is clinically proven to be able to penetrate as deep as the bone marrow, it literally cleans you from the inside out aids in ridding your body of impurities due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
The drainage we get out is essentially due to an oil pull of the tissues as we massage it deep into the structures, therefore the stagnant debris we have just drips out of the pores. It’s amazing!
How does the towel drainage vary from person to person?
The towel of drainage we get from our patients varies in several ways for each individual. Some may drain really light, similar to the color of the oil, while many drain shades of brown, grey, and even black. Some may drain a lot out of their lungs or thyroid, while others may hardly drain at all when we first begin. The drainage towel is a powerful tool that allows us to assess lymphatic stagnation and blockage in the fascia. It’s incredibly unique to every case.
Is it a painful treatment? Will it hurt?
Galore Lymphatic Rehab is intended to make you feel really good. We want you melting into the table, not trying to make you wish it was over. GLR should feel like heaven. While we aim to rehabilitate, we have no intention of sacrificing your comfort on the table with unnecessary pain. This treatment works best when the body is fully relaxed therefore creating a parasympathetic response in the nervous system. Of course we will visit intense areas but GLR is a gentle technique that uses varying modalities as needed to suit your body’s needs. While one may need deep tissue, another one may not at all. It’s completely unique to the individual.
Does this help with cellulite?
Absolutely. GLR work is very fascial-targeted which is what needs to be managed to correct the appearance of cellulite.
The superficial fascia plays a key role in how cellulite manifests. This layer contains fat cells (adipocytes) and is interwoven with fibrous bands called septae, which tether the skin to deeper tissues. In areas prone to cellulite, these septae can be stiff or unevenly distributed. When fat cells in the superficial fascia expand—due to weight gain, fluid retention, or genetic predisposition—they push upward against the skin. If the septae are rigid or pull downward unevenly, the skin gets puckered, creating that characteristic dimpled look.
Fascia’s condition also affects cellulite’s visibility. Tight, inflexible fascia (from poor hydration, inactivity, or injury) can restrict tissue mobility and blood flow, potentially worsening the appearance of cellulite by trapping fat and fluids. Healthy, elastic fascia, on the other hand, allows for smoother tissue movement and may reduce the prominence of dimpling.
With the combination of our cleansing Ayurvedic oil, targeted myofascial release work, and lymphatic drainage—that cellulite has no where to hide. 96% of Galore clients say they see a substantial visual reduction in cellulite post-GLR.
Can it help with chronic pain?
YES. We target one thing here: inflammation, and it’s the leading cause of pain and death in this world. GLR works to rehabilitate the fascia therefore the structures that flow within it. Here at Galore, we pay special attention to your lymphatic watersheds and circulatory pathways that flow within your fascia and are often blocked or closed. When these key structures aren’t functioning properly, that’s when things become stagnant which is never ideal. Unlike your circulatory system that has a central pump, the heart to keep it going, your lymphatic system’s pump is literally your fascia—so its movement that keeps this important system afloat. GLR provides manual manipulation to your fascia especially in areas with the most stagnation, therefore stimulating blood and lymph vessel flow as needed to places that need it the most. Doing this treatment consistently ensures that your watersheds and pathways are maintained, helping you to manage the way your body detoxes and leaving you feeling lighter.
